Of the 381 coronavirus cases recorded across Cheshire West in the week leading up to 10 June, 10 originated from Frodsham and Helsby.

In Frodsham, four new cases made for a rolling infection rate of 44 per 100,000, while in the area covering Helsby, Kingsley, Manley and Alvanley, six positive test results resulted in a rate of 65 per 100,000.

These single-figure case numbers were echoed across our neighbouring council areas, with the borough's higher infection rates concentrated in Northwich, Winsford and parts of Chester for now.

Currently standing at 111 per 100,000, Cheshire West's average coronavirus rate is above the national average of 70 per 100,000.

However, the low case numbers reflected in much of Ellesmere Port are echoed in towns across the county, with higher infection rates concentrated in Northwich, Winsford and parts of Chester for now.

On Monday, it was announced that Cheshire West would be given a national enhanced support package to help the Council tackle a rising incidence of the Delta variant, which now accounts for up to 85 per cent of new infections in the borough.

This package is expected to include enhanced vaccine access and supply, increased testing in key areas, enhanced contact tracing and more face-to-face engagement with communities.

The Delta COVID-19 variant spreads more easily from person to person and everyone who lives and works in the borough is advised to take extra caution, as follows:

  • Meet outside rather than inside where possible
  • Keep two metres apart from people that you don't live with (unless you have formed a support bubble with them), this includes friends and family you do not live with
  • Minimise travel in and out of affected areas

And what about vaccines?

61 per cent of Cheshire 30 to 34-year-olds and 79 per cent of 35 to 39-year-olds have now had at least one dose of their vaccine.

By last week, 214,000 people in Cheshire West – or three quarters of the eligible population - had had their first vaccine dose, with 152,000 having had their second as well.
